SWEPCO Shares Estimated Restoration Times | Update #3

July 9, 2024

What You Need to Know

  • Restoration work is ongoing in the ArkLaTex region after Beryl caused widespread damage.
  • As part of mutual assistance, a hallmark of our industry, SWEPCO deployed nearly 700 workers to address locations needing repairs across a 14,000 square mile area.
  • As of 7 p.m., power has been restored to roughly 36,000 customers so far and crews continue to work as quickly and safely as possible to restore all customers.
  • SWEPCO has released estimated times of restoration for 95% of customers who can receive power. Please see below for a detailed list by city and state.

Crews work to repair damage caused by Beryl

CURRENT SITUATION

Beryl caused significant damage to SWEPCO’s energy delivery system and distribution networks with homes and businesses damaged. A familiar scene across the ArkLaTex included roofs removed, trees downed, and power lines snapped as severe weather moved through the ArkLaTex on Monday, July 8.

SWEPCO deployed its storm response team, which included utility professionals as part of Mutual Assistance from outside SWEPCO’s service territory including Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama and Georgia. The crews worked together across SWEPCO’s three state service territory on Tuesday to identify and make repairs.

As of 7 p.m. Tuesday, SWEPCO successfully and safely restored power to approximately 36,000 customers.

Estimated Time of Restoration (ETRs)

As part of SWEPCO’s storm restoration assessment process, the company has shared estimated restoration times for areas impacted by the storm.

Based on the number of outages and crews available, we developed a Global Estimated Time of Restoration or ETR, which is an estimate of how long it will take to restore 95% of all customers affected.

The more damage there is to the system, the further out in time the global ETR will be. Please note these restoration times could change based on the complexity of repairs.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What should customers do if they see downed lines?

Don't touch it or anything near it. Even telephone or cable lines can become energized. Keep yourself and others as far away as possible and call 911 or SWEPCO immediately at (888) 218-3919.

CAN YOU RECEIVE POWER?

Now is the time for customers to determine whether their home can receive power - SWEPCO cannot connect power to a home or business if there is damage to the service entrance, which is owned by the customer. Customers must have a licensed electrician repair damage before power can be restored. Click for a flyer in English & Spanish. Learn how to identify weatherhead damages by watching this video.
