SWEPCO crews everywhere use specialized equipment to keep the power flowing. Those ‘big rigs’ are a sight to behold and became the focus at a recent “Big Rig Takeover” hosted by the Texarkana Public Library.

Throughout July, the library is hosting Tuesday takeovers to bring these huge vehicles to some of the smallest library-goers.

Texarkana Lineman A, Dillon Maddox, and Principal Customer Services Account Representative, Doyal Reed, were on hand this Tuesday to allow library goers a chance to see SWEPCO’s big rigs, get hands on learning and answer questions about the work we do.

SWEPCO was one of many first responders showcased during the free library event. Watch for the Arkansas and Texas-side Police Departments at 9 a.m. July 23 and the Texarkana, Texas Fire Department crews at 9 a.m., July 30.

“We know knowledge is power and our crew had a wonderful day visiting with local families and their children while celebrating our local library,” said Amanda Keeney, SWEPCO Communications Director. “Thank you to the Texarkana Public Library for spotlighting SWEPCO as part of the big rig takeover.”

One of SWEPCO’s favorite friends and mascot, Louie the Lightning Bug, also joined in on the fun to welcome children, pose for photographs and he made sure to use his library card to check out a helpful book about electricity for summer reading!

“Louie is a great fan of all our SWEPCO communities and a big advocate for learning,” Keeney added. “We loved having him on hand to enjoy a great local library and share in the fun with other summer readers.”
