For educators and students the arctic temps in January often result in dreaming about fun in the summer sun. For POL Care, INC. (Package of Love Care, Inc.) and their Kidz Summer Reading Program dreams became reality when the AEP Foundation (American Electric Power Foundation) at the request of SWEPCO (Southwestern Electric Power Company), announced a $10,000 grant to offer Texarkana students a summer filled with fun, learning and great memories.
The Kidz Summer Reading Program aims to provide educational enrichment and support to elementary students in the Texarkana area. Specifically designed for elementary students from 3rd grade to 5th grade, the program offers educational enrichment experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
“This program will have a significant impact on students in the area, neutralizing summer learning loss and equipping them with essential academic skills,” said Evelyn Abhulimen, CEO/President of Package of Love Care Inc. “It will instill a love for reading, boost self-esteem, and create lasting memories for all participants.”
According to Abhulimen, she and the staff at POL Care remain dedicated to serving the community and providing support to families and neighbors in need.
“We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these children, regardless of their circumstances,” she said.
The POL Care Kidz Summer Reading Program prioritizes educational enrichment both inside and outside the classroom. The program includes special field trips to the library, zoos, movies, and entertainment venues like l-jump. These experiences are designed to create a fun and memorable summer for the students, enhancing their overall growth and learning.
“At SWEPCO we appreciate POL Care’s commitment to improving the lives of children in this community,” said Jennifer Harland, External Affairs Manager at SWEPCO. “The Kidz Summer Reading Program offers educational enrichment that ensures students have a memorable summer while preparing for the upcoming academic year.”
